Clifton Hill was originally called Ferry Road because it was the street that took you to the Maid of the Mist ferries in the mid 1800’s.
In the 1920’s when camping became popular you could find Clifton Camp and Clifton Touring Camp operated by the Burland family. The family is still here and now operates a modern motel along with other attractions. Burland provided his customers with the luxury of inside facilities by driving them to washrooms located in nearby Queen Victoria Park.
Boy, have things changed!
